long tailed and velvet scoter on headland 1st Jan Bittern at Saltholme among usual cast of birds for New Years day. An explanation for the numbers of 2009, we are a group of birders going for 700 western palearctic species. The group has nine members across the uk and ireland and our aim is we all reach 700. We also have a trip outside the Western Pal each year. A birding highlight of 2009 was watching a great snipe lek in Poland with night vision gear.......unreal. The Scillies was good too with a number of new birds for us.
